佛在舍衛。居士請僧，六群溢鉢受食，捐棄羹飯。居士譏言：「無慚無厭，如餓貪多。」比丘舉過，因訶制戒。

The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. A householder invited the saṃgha. The group of six [monks] accepted food until their bowls overflowed, and discarded soup and rice. The householder criticized them, saying: "They have no shame and no moderation, like starving people greedy for much." The bhikṣus brought up the fault, and [the Buddha] consequently rebuked them and formulated the precept.
