佛在舍衛。居士設供，六群受羹，居士識次取羹，比丘於後以飯覆羹。居士譏言：「受取無厭，如飢餓人，何有正法！」比丘舉過，佛因訶責制戒。

The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. A householder prepared an offering of food. The group of six received soup, and when the householder recognized the order to distribute soup, the bhikṣus afterward covered the soup with rice. The householder criticized them, saying: "Taking without satisfaction, like starving people—what True Dharma is this!" The bhikṣus brought up the fault, and the Buddha consequently rebuked them and formulated the precept.
