佛在舍衛。六群大小便、涕唾生草葉上。居士見，譏無慚愧，如猪、狗、駱駝、牛、驢。比丘舉過，佛因訶制。

The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. The group of six voided feces, urine, mucus, and saliva upon living grass and leaves. Laypeople saw this and criticized them for having no shame, being like pigs, dogs, camels, cattle, and donkeys. Bhikṣus reported the fault, and the Buddha thereupon rebuked them and formulated the precept.
