3.54

佛在舍衛。六群著涅槃僧不齊整故，居士譏言：「如節會戲笑俳說人，亦如王、大臣。」比丘舉過，佛因訶責制戒。

The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. The group of six wore their nivāsanas untidily, so householders criticized them, saying: "They are like performers and actors joking and laughing at festivals, or like kings and ministers." The bhikṣus reported the fault, and the Buddha thereupon reproached them and laid down the precept.
