[saying,] 'Take such a robe-fund and give it to bhikṣu so-and-so'; and that messenger arrives at the bhikṣu's place and says to the bhikṣu, 'Venerable one! Now, for your sake, I deliver this robe-fund; please accept it.' This bhikṣu should speak to that messenger like this: 'I should not accept this robe-fund. If I need a robe, I will accept it at the proper time in accordance with purity.' That messenger says to the bhikṣu, 'Venerable one! Is there an attendant?' The bhikṣu should speak to him, saying: 'There is. Whether a monastery servant or an upāsaka, these are attendants of the bhikṣu who regularly attend to matters for the bhikṣus.' Then that messenger goes to the attendant's place, gives the robe-fund, and returns to the bhikṣu's place, speaking like this: 'The attendant so-and-so indicated by the venerable one, I have already given the robe-fund to him. Venerable one, knowing the proper time, go there and you shall obtain the robe.' The bhikṣu who needs a robe should go to the attendant's place, two or three times, to remind him, and should speak to him: 'I need a robe.'
