(The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. Kālodayin had an upasikā friend from his former secular life; each was handsome, and they were mutually attached. Later he went to her house; the woman adorned her body, and her husband loved her dearly. The bhikṣu stayed sitting after eating, whereupon her husband became angry and abandoned her. Bhikṣus reported this matter to the Buddha, who thereupon formulated the precept.)
