(That person receiving ordination knows his age is not full, and the upādhyāya and the saṃgha also know; yet when asked in the assembly, "Is your age full or not?" he answers either that it is full, or that it is not full, or in doubt, or not knowing, or remains silent, or the saṃgha does not ask. Among these there are four kinds: if [the upādhyāya] knows or doubts, for the upādhyāya it is a prāyaścittika, and for the assembled saṃgha a duṣkṛta; if he assumes [the age is full] or does not know, both do not commit an offense. When the three karmans are completed, the upādhyāya incurs a fall [prāyaścittika]. If midway, or the motion is not yet completed, or if performing the preparatory acts, or shaving the head, or gathering the saṃgha, for the upādhyāya all are duṣkṛtas, and likewise for the assembled saṃgha. For bhikṣuṇīs it is a prāyaścittika. There is no offense: if one did not know beforehand, trusting the word of the candidate, or a bystander testifies, or trusting the word of the parents. If after receiving the ordination one doubts, the Buddha said: "One should count the months and years in the womb, count intercalary months, or count all fourteenth-day precept recitations as the count of years; if full, it is permitted.")
