If one speaks without completing it, it is a duṣkṛta. If one speaks to a non-human or an animal, the offense is also like this. Cases of non-offense: speaking five or six sentences; speaking excessively before an intelligent man; if there is no intelligent man present and one is questioned, it is permissible to answer and speak at length; if conferring the five precepts on an upāsikā, up to explaining the Dharma of the five precepts; giving the eightfold poṣadha precepts, expounding the eightfold poṣadha precepts, the eight noble paths, and the ten unwholesome dharmas; if a woman asks about the meaning because she does not understand, to speak at length—all are permissible.
