Fortieth: The precept on soliciting delicious foods. In principle, one who has gone forth should renounce all delicious flavors; craving fine food troubles sentient beings and increases greed. Discerning the conditions involves four: 1. it is delicious food; 2. it is for oneself; 3. there is no cause; 4. once one eats it, one commits the offence. The precept text has three phrases: 1. the person committing the offence; 2. setting forth the four kinds of delicious food; 3. concluding the offence. Next, citing the grounds for exemption, the eighth fascicle of the Five-Part Vinaya states: 'If one solicits for a sick monk, or from relatives, or from acquaintances and the like, none of these are an offence.' Forty-first: The precept on giving food to non-Buddhists. The phrase 'with one's own hand' is what constitutes the offence, because having someone else do so or placing it on the ground to give it is not an offence.
