（《毘尼母論》云：「事謂人、法也。」《律》云：「稱量比丘及白衣，稱量羯磨及犯、事也。」然所為之緣，不出三種，謂人、法、事也。如受戒、懺悔、差使、治擯等，為人故作；如說戒、自恣等，為法故作；如結界、攝衣、淨地、庫藏等，為事故作。或具或單，時離時合，並先須量校，使成應法之緣。）

(The Vinayamātṛkā-śāstra says: “The matter refers to persons and Dharmas.” The Vinaya says: “Weigh the monk and the householder; weigh the karman, the offense, and the matter.” Now, the conditions for which [a karman] is performed do not exceed three types: namely, persons, Dharmas, and matters. For instance, receiving the precepts, repentance, appointing messengers, disciplining and expelling, etc., are performed for the sake of persons; things like upoṣadha and pravāraṇā are performed for the sake of Dharmas; things like binding boundaries, securing robes, purifying sites, and storehouses are performed for the sake of matters. Whether complete or singular, sometimes separate and sometimes conjoined, they must all first be weighed and checked so that they become conditions compliant with the Dharma.)
