「一切不得故斷眾生命，下至蟻子。若比丘故自手斷人命，持刀授與人，教死，歎死，與人非藥，若墮胎，若[示*厭]禱殺，自作方便，若教人作，非沙門，非釋子。譬喻者說言：『猶如鍼鼻缺不堪復用，比丘亦如是，犯波羅夷法已，不復還成比丘行。』汝是中盡形壽不得作，能持不？」

"You must under no circumstances intentionally sever the life of a sentient being, down to an ant. If a bhikṣu intentionally severs a human being's life with his own hands, takes a knife and hands it to a person, urges death, praises death, gives a person unwholesome medicine, causes an abortion, kills through sorcery, uses means himself, or instructs another to do so, he is not a śramaṇa, not a son of the Śākya. The parable-speaker said, 'Just as when the eye of a needle is broken, it can no longer be used, so too is a bhikṣu: having committed a pārājika dharma, he will never again achieve the conduct of a bhikṣu.' In this matter, you must not do so as long as your life lasts; are you able to uphold this?"
