（時有比丘，和尚命終，若休道，決意出界外。以無人教授故，種種破戒，作非威儀。佛言：「聽有阿闍梨，當共相奉敬瞻視，如和尚法。」當具修威儀，如是請云：）

(At that time there were monks whose upādhyāyas had passed away, or abandoned the path, or resolved to depart beyond the boundary. Because there was no one to instruct them, they broke the precepts in various ways and engaged in improper deportment. The Buddha said: "I allow [them] to have an ācārya, whom they must respectfully revere and look after, just as in the rule for an upādhyāya." One should fully observe the proper deportment and make the request thus, saying:)
