（謂《律》據事，隨事分七，今以義求，收非斯盡。謂單白羯磨三十九種，各有非相，義同過別。白二、白四，類亦同之。若不別明，成非莫顯。今且就單白說戒一法，具解七非，餘之三種，例之可曉。）

(This means: the Vinaya relies on matters and differentiates seven [faults] according to each matter; now, seeking according to doctrinal principle, all inadequacies are gathered exhaustively herein. The thirty-nine kinds of jñapti-karman each have marks of inadequacy: their principles are identical while their transgressions differ. Jñapti-dvitīya-karman and jñapti-caturtha-karman are also analogous to this. If they are not separately clarified, how they constitute inadequacies would not be evident. Now, taking just the single procedure of upoṣadha by jñapti-karman, the seven inadequacies are fully explained; the remaining three kinds can be understood by analogy.)
