佛言：「有五種疾滅正法：有比丘不諦受誦律，喜忘文句，復教他人，文既不具，其義有闕；二、為僧中勝人上座，而多不持戒，但修不善，後生倣習，放捨戒行；三、有比丘持法、持律、持摩夷，不教道俗，即便命終，令法斷滅；四、有比丘難可教授，不受善言，餘善比丘便即捨置；五、互相罵詈，互求長短，疾滅正法。」

The Buddha said: "There are five things that rapidly destroy the true Dharma: first, there are bhikṣus who do not accurately learn and recite the vinaya, frequently forgetting lines and phrases, and yet teach others; since the text is incomplete, the meaning is deficient. Second, those who are superior men and theras in the saṃgha mostly do not keep the śīla and only cultivate what is unwholesome; later generations imitate them and abandon moral conduct. Third, there are bhikṣus who preserve the Dharma, preserve the vinaya, and preserve the mātṛkā, but die without teaching monastics and laypeople, causing the Dharma to be cut off and extinguished. Fourth, there are bhikṣus who are difficult to instruct and do not accept good words, so that other good bhikṣus simply cast them aside. Fifth, they revile one another and mutually seek faults; this rapidly destroys the true Dharma."
