(First, calculating the amount of labor and measuring whence the medicine came; second, taking stock of one's own virtuous conduct, whether whole or deficient, to be worthy of the offering; third, guarding the mind against faults, with greed and the like as the chief [defilements]; fourth, taking it properly as good medicine, in order to treat the suffering of the body; fifth, for the sake of accomplishing the path.
