(After making this jñapti, the sthavira should instruct the junior monks to prepare clean water, lamps and fire, and the śalākās. When it is time, they are permitted to strike the gaṇḍī and follow other regulations for the time. He may proclaim: 'Venerable sirs! The time for upoṣadha and the recitation of the precepts has arrived.' After the saṃgha has gathered, adjacent seats check each other to know who has come and who has not. The various articles for adorning the recitation of the precepts are explained at length as in the *Xingshichao*.)
