(The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya, fascicle 40, states: "When the road is distant and the business prolonged, for the sake of affairs concerning a stūpa or the Saṃgha, one should perform a karman requesting permission to depart and return once the affair is concluded." Some have added 'May the Saṃgha give its approval and listen', which is an erroneous addition to the holy teachings. That karman follows the same general model.)
