(Since the transmission of the Buddha's teachings to the East, several editions of the Karman texts have completely diverged or omitted the ritual of requesting and taking leave, all based on personal whim without examining the authentic teachings. What our school relies on today is based solely on the Vinaya root text; since the root text contains no petition, one must not add it arbitrarily. Furthermore, examining all the traditions, none of them adds a petition. Having explained the circumstances, the officiant of the karman makes the declaration as follows:)
