(The Buddha said: "If a bhikṣu or bhikṣuṇī has committed a pārājika and has no mind of concealment whatsoever, they should repent in accordance with the Dharma, be granted the karman for training in the precepts, be stripped of thirty-five privileges, and practice this for the rest of their life. When the saṃgha recites the precepts and performs karman, whether they come or do not come, there is no offense. If they commit a heavy offense again, they should be permanently expelled." The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya says: "If one has committed a heavy offense and weeps, not wishing to part from the kāṣāya, and deeply delights in the Buddha-Dharma, they should be granted [the status of] training in the precepts. Food that is impure for a bhikṣu is also impure for them; food that is impure for them is also impure for a bhikṣu. They may hand food to a bhikṣu, excluding [items requiring] fire-purification, the five kinds of viable seeds, and gold or silver. They themselves receive food from a śrāmaṇera." The Daśādhyāya-vinaya says: "They must accept and practice all the precepts established by the Buddha, sit below fully ordained bhikṣus, and must not spend more than three nights together with fully ordained monks. They themselves must not spend more than three nights together with those who have not received the upasampadā. They may perform the two kinds of karman—pravāraṇā and poṣadha—together with the saṃgha, but must not count toward the quorum. They may not perform other communal acts, but may receive rainy-season seniority." The Vinaya says: "They must not recite the Vinaya amidst the assembly; if no one else is available, it is permitted." The Vinayamātṛkā says: "Once the procedure for repentance in training has been conferred, they are called pure in maintaining the precepts. However, in this single lifetime, they cannot transcend birth, escape death, or remove obstacles; [yet] they will not enter hell.")
