1.127

一切不得盜下至草葉。若比丘盜人五錢、若過五錢，若自取、教人取，若自破、教人破，若自斫、教人斫，若燒、若埋、若壞色；非沙門，非釋種子。譬如斷多羅樹心，終不復更生長；比丘亦如是，犯波羅夷法已，終不還成比丘行。汝是中盡形壽不得作，能持不？（答言：）能。

"You must not steal anything, down to even a blade of grass. If a bhikṣu steals from another five māsakas or more than five māsakas, whether taking it himself or instructing another to take it, whether destroying it himself or instructing another to destroy it, whether cutting it himself or instructing another to cut it, whether burning, burying, or ruining its color, he is no longer a śramaṇa, nor a son of the Śākya. Just as when the heart of a tāla tree is cut, it never again grows; so too is a bhikṣu: after violating a pārājika dharma, he never again restores his conduct as a bhikṣu. In this you must not engage for the rest of your life. Can you maintain this?" (He answers, saying:) "I can."
