Procedure for imposing the karman of a trainee family: (At that time, there was a householder family where both husband and wife attained faith and joy, becoming disciples of the Buddha. It is the regular practice of disciples of the Buddhas who have seen the truths to hold nothing back in devotion toward bhikṣus and bhikṣuṇīs, even up to their own flesh. Whenever bhikṣus and bhikṣuṇīs came to the house, they constantly gave food, drink, and various offerings, thereby causing themselves to become impoverished and entirely destitute of clothing and food. The Buddha said: "The saṃgha is permitted to carry out the karman of a trainee family for that householder." It should be carried out thus:)
