The procedure for granting the settlement through recollection (smṛti-vinaya): (If there is a bhikṣuṇī who truly did not commit a grave offence—pārājika, saṃghāvaśeṣa, or sthūlātyaya—and there are bhikṣuṇīs who all claim that she committed a grave offence, and question her, saying, "Do you recollect committing a grave offence or not?" She does not recollect committing it, and replies, "I do not recollect committing such an offence." She then says to the bhikṣuṇīs, "Sisters! Do not repeatedly cross-examine me." The bhikṣuṇīs nevertheless cross-examine her without ceasing. The Buddha said, "I allow the saṃgha to perform for her the jñapticaturtha-karman of the settlement through recollection." The request to perform it is as in the text.)
