第三、料揀，更為三：一、須信心；二、無三障；三、人法為緣。信心者，依三藏門略舉三種：一、信因果善惡必有所招；二、信觀諦得道，我能觀諦必得聖道；三、信有戒是觀諦入道初門，依方等戒故宜備此。三信復加三種：一、信自他心識皆有佛性，二、信勤行勝善必能得果，三、信所得果常樂我淨。

Third, the examination is further divided into three: (1) the necessity of having a mind of faith; (2) the absence of the three obstacles; (3) the person and ritual as conditions. Regarding the mind of faith, three kinds are briefly cited according to the approach of the Tripiṭaka: (1) having faith that karmic causes and effects, good and evil, inevitably bring retribution; (2) having faith that observing the truths leads to the attainment of the path, and that through my ability to observe the truths I will inevitably attain the noble path; (3) having faith that the existence of precepts is the primary gate for observing the truths and entering the path; following the vaipulya precepts, one ought to be fully equipped with these. To these three faiths, three kinds are further added: (1) having faith that the mental consciousness of oneself and others all possesses the Buddha-nature; (2) having faith that diligently practicing superior good will inevitably yield the fruit; (3) having faith that the fruit obtained is eternal, blissful, self, and pure.
