初十一行半偈為三：初、三行三句，明舍那說戒，傳授釋迦；次、「是時」下三行三句，明釋迦迹佛授諸菩薩，菩薩授諸眾生；三、從「諦聽」下盡偈，明勸信受持。此之三序悉是釋迦所說，雜有經家之辭。初為二：初、二行半明本迹，次、一行一句明人法。初又三：初、半行明舍那本身，次、一行半明釋迦迹化，三、半行總結本迹。

The first eleven and a half lines of verse are divided into three: first, three lines and three phrases explain Rocana's proclamation of the precepts and transmission to Śākyamuni; second, the three lines and three phrases from 'At that time' explain Śākyamuni as the trace-Buddha conferring them on the bodhisattvas, and the bodhisattvas conferring them on all sentient beings; third, from 'Listen attentively' to the end of the verse explains exhorting faithful reception and upholding. All three of these prefatory sections are spoken by Śākyamuni, mixed with the words of the compiler of the sūtra. The first has two parts: first, two and a half lines explain the origin and the trace; second, one line and one phrase explain the persons and the Dharma. The first also has three parts: first, half a line explains Rocana's original body; second, one line and a half explains Śākyamuni's trace transformation; third, half a line concludes the origin and trace together.
