初、制意者，菩薩理應香潔自居，反食薰穢臭氣熢㶿，令賢聖天神捨而不近，故須制也。

First, regarding the intent of the prohibition: A bodhisattva ought in principle to abide in purity and fragrance. If they instead eat pungent foulness with suffocating stench, it causes the noble and sagely devas and spirits to abandon them and not approach. Therefore, it must be prohibited.
