6.221

一、制意者，菩薩理應護持正法，先揚顯發令法久住報佛恩，何容為利自毀內眾損己正法？為失既大故須制也。

First, the intention of the precept: a bodhisattva ought reasonably to protect and uphold the true Dharma, promoting and making it manifest in advance so that the Dharma abides long, thereby repaying the Buddha's kindness; how could one, for the sake of profit, personally defame the internal assembly and damage one's own true Dharma? Because the fault is great, it had to be instituted.
