五、闕緣者，闕初緣有二義：一、雖非舊住見此非法而不制之，犯重方便；二、制御不從宜速捨去，而經宿不去應輕方便。次闕第二緣亦二義：一、聲聞僧來重方便；二、在家菩薩來輕方便。次闕後二緣各得重方便，可知。

Fifth, regarding the lack of conditions: lacking the first condition has two meanings: 1. although not a resident, seeing this illegality and not restraining it incurs a grave preparatory offense; 2. if one restrains them but they do not comply, one ought to leave quickly; yet staying overnight without departing should incur a light preparatory offense. Next, lacking the second condition also has two meanings: 1. if a śrāvaka monk arrives, it is a grave preparatory offense; 2. if a lay bodhisattva arrives, it is a light preparatory offense. Next, lacking either of the latter two conditions each incurs a grave preparatory offense, as can be known.
