Second, as for what is subsumed under the piṭakas, this has four levels. First, regarding the two piṭakas, there are two: the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna each have a bodhisattva piṭaka and a śrāvaka piṭaka. Among these four, it is subsumed exclusively under the bodhisattva piṭaka within the Mahāyāna; or it also extends to being subsumed under the Mahāyāna śrāvaka piṭaka, because śrāvakas in the Mahāyāna are all permitted to attain buddhahood and also receive and uphold this precept Dharma; it also comprehensively includes the bodhisattvas of the Hīnayāna, because events such as their attaining buddhahood through the thirty-four minds are nothing other than these real precepts; or it also extends to that [Hīnayāna] śrāvaka piṭaka, because the prātimokṣa precepts upheld by the seven assemblies are all subsumed under the bodhisattva's [precepts of] restraining conduct; therefore, that Dharma is also contained herein. Second, regarding the three piṭakas, there are also two: first, it is exclusively the Mahāyāna Vinaya Piṭaka, because it fully expresses and reveals the practice of subjugation; second, or it extends to the other two, because the precepts possess the three clusters, encompass the three trainings, and in accomplishing the five causal ranks they must possess the rest. Third, regarding the ten piṭakas, there are also two: it is exclusively the Precept Piṭaka; second, or it extends to the others, because the three clusters gather all practices. Fourth, regarding the twelve divisions of teachings, there are also two: first, it is subsumed under the sūtras of causes and conditions (nidāna); second, it also extends to the others. This should be understood according to principle.
