Seventh, the karmic fruition. The retribution for the offense of prohibition is as discussed below. Showing its inherent offense, one obtains three kinds of fruition. The Daśabhūmika Sūtra says: 'The offense of false speech also causes sentient beings to fall into hell, the animal realm, and the hungry ghost realm. If born among humans, one obtains two kinds of retributions: first, being frequently slandered; second, constantly being deceived by many people.' In the Abhidharmasamuccaya, the predominant fruition (adhipati-phala) is further added: namely, the seeds do not bear fruit. Furthermore, the Dazhidulun, chapter 15, states: 'As the Buddha said, false speech has ten offenses: 1. Foul breath; 2. Good deities depart from one and non-humans find their opportunity; 3. Even when speaking true words, people do not believe or accept them; 4. When wise persons deliberate, one never participates; 5. One is constantly slandered, with an ugly and evil reputation spreading throughout the world; 6. One is not respected by others, and even if one issues instructions, people do not follow them; 7. One constantly has much worry and sorrow; 8. One plants the karmic causes and conditions for slander; 9. At the breakup of the body and the end of life, one will fall into hell; 10. If born as a human, one is constantly slandered.'
