"O disciples of the Buddha! You should constantly with single mind uphold, read, and recite Mahāyāna sūtras and vinaya texts; flay your skin for paper, pierce your blood for ink, use your marrow for water, and snap your bones for pens to copy the Buddha's precepts. Tree bark, mulberry paper, silk, and bamboo slips should all likewise be written upon and upheld. Constantly use the seven treasures, priceless incense and flowers, and all kinds of gems as boxes and bags to hold the scrolls of sūtras and vinaya. If one does not make offerings according to the Dharma, one commits a duṣkṛta offense."
