"If a disciple of the Buddha previously resides in a monastery, and later sees a visiting bodhisattva or bhikṣu entering the monastery, private dwelling, city or hamlet, or royal palace, up to a summer retreat dwelling or a great assembly, the previously residing monastic should welcome them on arrival and see them off on departure, offer food and drink, and provide dwellings, bedding, rope-beds, and wooden beds, supplying them in every matter. If they have no provisions, they should sell their own body and the bodies of their sons and daughters to supply what is needed and give it all to them. If a dānapati comes to invite the monastic assembly, the visiting monastics have a share in the offerings, and the monastery leader should assign the visiting monastics in due order to receive the invitation. If the previously residing monastics receive the invitation alone without assigning the guests, the monastery leader incurs limitless offenses; they are no different from beasts, and are neither śramaṇas nor of the Śākya gotra. If done intentionally, they commit a duṣkṛta offense."
