若佛子！有出家菩薩、在家菩薩及一切檀越，請僧福田求願之時，應入僧坊中問知事人：「今欲請僧求願。」知事報言：「次第請者，即得十方賢聖僧。而世人別請五百羅漢菩薩僧，不如僧次一凡夫僧。若別請僧者，是外道法。七佛無別請法，不順孝道。」若故別請僧者，犯輕垢罪。

"If a disciple of the Buddha—whether a renunciant bodhisattva, a householder bodhisattva, or any dānapati—when inviting the field of merit of the sangha to make a wish, should enter the monastic quarters and ask the administrative officer: 'I now wish to invite the sangha to make a wish.' The administrative officer should reply: 'If you invite in turn, you will obtain the noble and holy sangha of the ten directions. But if worldly people separately invite five hundred arhats and bodhisattvas of the sangha, it is not equal to inviting one ordinary monk according to monastic seniority. If one makes personal invitations to the sangha, this is a non-Buddhist practice. The seven Buddhas have no practice of personal invitations; it does not conform to the filial way.' If one deliberately makes personal invitations to the sangha, one commits a duṣkṛta offense."
