"The Buddha said: 'Disciples of the Buddha! You must not repay anger with anger, nor repay blows with blows. If parents, siblings, or the six kinds of kin are killed, you must not retaliate; if the ruler of the state is killed by others, you must likewise not retaliate. Killing living beings to repay [the debt of] life does not accord with filial piety. When even keeping male and female slaves and beating or reviling them, daily generating the three kinds of karmic actions, incurs limitless offenses, how much more so intentionally committing the offenses of the seven ānantarya sins? Yet if an ordained bodhisattva, lacking compassion, avenges an enemy, even intentionally retaliating among the six kinds of kin, they commit a duṣkṛta offense.'"
