"If a disciple of the Buddha intentionally drinks alcohol—and the faults of alcohol are limitless—if with one's own hands one passes a wine vessel and gives it to someone to drink alcohol, one will be without hands for five hundred lifetimes, to say nothing of drinking it oneself. One must not instruct any person to drink, nor any sentient being to drink alcohol, to say nothing of drinking alcohol oneself. One must not drink any alcohol. If one intentionally drinks it oneself or instructs another to drink, one commits a duṣkṛta offense."
