"If a disciple of the Buddha possesses the Buddhist scriptures and vinaya, the Mahāyāna Dharma, right views, right nature, and the right dharmakāya, but fails to diligently study and cultivate them and instead discards the seven treasures, turning back to study wrong views, the two vehicles, non-Buddhist paths, secular texts, Abhidharma, miscellaneous treatises, and all manner of scribal records, these are causes and conditions that sever the Buddha-nature and obstruct the Way; this is not practicing the bodhisattva path. If one intentionally does so, one commits a duṣkṛta offense."
