The commentary states: In reverse order, second is contemplating the wholesome root of renunciation. First, it states generally: second, one contemplates that renunciation of all hindrances of greed, thereby practicing the renunciation of equal emptiness. Next, it clarifies the mode of practice: with practice free of conditioned objects, one contemplates the single true suchness characteristic of the limit of emptiness of phenomena. Furthermore, one contemplates the gate of worldly equality: that is, contemplating the soil of the earth that 'I' have already used—it is so for the four great elements, such as the old and worn earth. "I now enter this ground" refers to the Ground Free from Defilement (vimalā-bhūmi). "Ultimately not receiving an impure body": as in the Daśabhūmikā-vibhāṣā, on the first ground the bodhisattva's defilements still cause afflictions among the five desires; on the higher grounds it is not so: since beginningless time, due to sensual love, one has taken on womb-born bodies, and the discarded corpses have become the great earth and so forth; now, since one causes no afflictions regarding the five desires, one should never again receive a womb-born body.
