The commentary states: 'Trafficking in the physical charms of men and women' means opening brothels in pursuit of profit. On the side of this trafficking, one commits a duṣkṛta offense. 'Preparing food with one's own hands' refers to offenses such as wrongful contact and destroying living beings, and conversely doing what worldly people despise; this single rule does not apply to lay bodhisattvas. 'Divining the features of men and women' means divining the suitability of marriages, and also palmistry and the like. 'Interpreting dreams for good and bad omens' is clear. 'Whether it is a boy or a girl' means divining the gender of a fetus. 'Incantations' are curses. 'Magical arts' are optical illusions. 'Crafts' means working as an artisan. 'Snake venom' refers to blending poisons with venomous snakes on the fifth day of the fifth month, or using poisons to repel snakes and the like. 'Alchemical gold and silver' means manufacturing fake gold and silver to deceive people. 'Insect poisons' refers to employing demons and the like.
