After pointing to the sūtra to establish this, the sūtra states: "For what reason? The Dharma expounded by the Tathāgata..." and so on downwards, explaining that the first 'for what reason' is establishment, divided into three: first, generally correlating with the sūtra; next, explaining the objection; finally, resolving the objection sequentially. The first passage can be understood. Vasubandhu's treatise states: "The nirmāṇakāya is not the true Buddha" and so on. Buddhas are of three kinds, namely dharma[kāya], saṃbhoga[kāya], and nirmāṇa[kāya]. Śākyamuni Tathāgata is a nirmāṇakāya; the [nirmāṇakāya] Buddha does not realize bodhi, nor does he expound the Dharma, so there is no real dharma that can be grasped or expounded, because within ultimate truth there is no grasping or expounding, just as in the *Vimalakīrtinirdeśa* where [Vimalakīrti] refutes Maitreya's exposition.
