3.17

自下明智淨中，經文有三，初、明如來能知一切若干種心，次、徵釋知多心所以，後、重徵釋非心住義。前文有六，一、佛問；二、善現答，知佛欲以恒河中沙為數依俗諦問，還依俗答也；三、重問；四、重答；五、約前多界顯眾生多；六、約前多生顯有多心，一一生有多種心故。論文有二，初、引經屬當，次、正釋難。

From here below clarifies purity of cognition; the sūtra text has three parts: first, clarifying that the Tathāgata is able to know all the various minds; next, questioning and explaining the reason for knowing many minds; and finally, questioning and explaining anew the meaning that they are not the abiding of minds. The preceding text has six parts: 1. the Buddha asks; 2. Subhūti answers, knowing that the Buddha intends to take the sands of the Gaṅgā as the number and ask relying on conventional truth, so he also answers according to conventional truth; 3. [the Buddha] asks again; 4. [Subhūti] answers again; 5. based on the preceding many realms, revealing the multitude of sentient beings; 6. based on the preceding many sentient beings, revealing the existence of many minds, because each sentient being has various kinds of minds. The text of the treatise has two parts: first, citing the sūtra to match the topics; next, properly resolving the difficulty.
