清淨地，明菩薩位也。龍樹《十地論》云「地者，謂菩薩階級住處。」因何等方便者，列第二章門，即地中所應作勝用名為方便。於何等境界者，列第三章門，即行所對境界，於境界中應所作故也。

"Pure stage" explains the bodhisattva's station. Nāgārjuna's *Daśabhūmika-śāstra* says: "'Stage' means the hierarchical dwelling place of the bodhisattva." "By means of what skillful means" lists the second section heading: namely, the supreme functions that ought to be performed within the stages are called skillful means. "In what realms" lists the third section heading: namely, the realms confronted by practice, because within those realms what ought to be done is done.
