初牒實無功德及增上慢心二章門。於第一乘不修習諸善根故，釋上實無功德，此人過去不集大乘善根故也。聞說大乘下，釋上增慢心。如是倒取者，於第一法謂非第一，故名倒取。

First, it cites the two section headings of truly lacking merit and the mind of adhimāna. "Because of not having cultivated and accumulated wholesome roots with respect to the foremost vehicle" explains the "truly lacking merit" above; this person did not accumulate Mahāyāna wholesome roots in the past. From "hearing the Mahāyāna taught" below, it explains the mind of adhimāna above. "Grasping in this way inverted[ly]" means considering the foremost Dharma not to be foremost, hence it is called inverted grasping.
