「依同義故」者，第二答。就答為二：一據今教明同義，故三乘名一乘；第二約昔義明不同，故有三乘。就初又二：初標同義。

As for "on the basis of the meaning of sameness," this is the second [part], which answers. The answer has two parts: first, it explains the meaning of sameness according to the present teaching, so that the three vehicles are named the one vehicle; second, it explains differences according to past meanings, so that there are three vehicles. The first also has two [parts]: first, it states the meaning of sameness.
