3.459

一出廣長舌者，令憶念故；二謦欬聲者，說偈令聞故，令聞聲已如實修行不放逸故；三彈指令覺悟眾生者，令修行者得覺悟故。

[The treatise states:] "First, extending the broad and long tongue is to make them mindful; second, the sound of coughing is to expound verses to make them hear, so that having heard the sound, they practice truly and are not indolent; third, snapping the fingers to awaken sentient beings is to cause practitioners to attain awakening."
