The doubter says: If the Buddha does not confer vyākaraṇa upon śrāvakas of excessive conceit, why did Bodhisattva Sadāparibhūta universally confer vyākaraṇa upon both persons? It is explained: The Buddha confers or does not confer vyākaraṇa with respect to whether their faculties are mature or not mature. The bodhisattva confers vyākaraṇa by virtue of two meanings: first, as clarified above, because they possess buddha-nature, vyākaraṇa can be conferred; second, vyākaraṇa is conferred to cause them by skillful means to give rise to bodhicitta. Question: If so, why does the Buddha not rely on these two meanings to universally confer vyākaraṇa on these four kinds of persons? Answer: If one draws an analogy from the bodhisattva to the Buddha, the meaning also holds.
