佛本何故起此願？見有軟心菩薩，但樂有佛國土修行，無慈悲堅牢心。是故興願：願我成佛時，我土菩薩皆慈悲勇猛堅固，志願能捨清淨土，至他方無佛法僧處住持莊嚴佛法僧寶，示如有佛，使佛種處處不斷。是故言何等世界無佛法功德寶，我願皆往生，示佛法如佛。觀菩薩四種莊嚴功德成就訖之于上，次下四句是迴向門。

Why did the Buddha originally give rise to this vow? He saw that there are bodhisattvas of soft mind who only delight in practicing in lands where there is a Buddha, lacking a mind of firm and solid compassion. Therefore, he gave rise to the vow: 'May it be that when I attain Buddhahood, the bodhisattvas of my land will all be compassionate, valiant, and firm, willing by resolve to renounce the pure land and go to other realms where there is neither Buddha, Dharma, nor Saṅgha, so as to sustain and adorn the jewels of the Buddha, Dharma, and Saṅgha, manifesting as if there were a Buddha, and causing the seed of the Buddha never to be severed anywhere.' Therefore, it is said: 'In whatever worlds that lack the jewels of the Buddha-Dharma's merits, / I vow to be reborn in all of them / to manifest the Buddha-Dharma like a Buddha.' The contemplation of the fulfillment of the four adornments of merit of the bodhisattvas concludes above. Next, the following four lines are the gate of dedication of merit.
