Question: Such views are merely one's personal affair; what suffering or affliction do they cause to sentient beings that surpasses the grave sins of the five heinous crimes? Answer: If there were no Buddhas and bodhisattvas expounding the mundane and supramundane wholesome paths to teach and transform sentient beings, how could one know of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness? In this way, all worldly wholesome dharmas would be severed, and all supramundane worthy and noble ones would be destroyed. You only know that the sins of the five heinous crimes are grave, but you do not know that the sins of the five heinous crimes arise from the absence of the True Dharma. Therefore, the sin of a person who slanders the True Dharma is the gravest of all.
