Impermanence has two kinds: first, coarse; second, subtle. The arising and ceasing of a single lifetime is coarse; the moment-to-moment arising and ceasing is subtle. The treatise says: "Contemplate all arisings and ceasings, because they destroy the five aggregates." The world also has two kinds: namely, the three realms are the container world, and the six destinies are the sentient world; and both these environments and sentient bodies are rapidly decaying, as if being burned by fire. Furthermore, the Renwang jing says: "The kalpa fire blazes, and the great trichiliocosm is destroyed together." Aśvaghoṣa's eulogy on the Wuchang jing says: "There has never been a single thing / that is not swallowed by impermanence." "Swiftly seek self-deliverance" indicates seeking dhyāna-concentration and wisdom to deliver that which is to be delivered. "The bandits of defilement" refers to the defilements of the three poisons murdering the dharmakāya and the life of wisdom. The treatise says: "Contemplate the aggregates, sense fields, and realms as constantly harming, and that herein one should fear and seek one's own right awakening."
