《涅槃》云「愧者發露向人」，《瑜伽》云「外生羞恥為愧」，《涅槃》又謂無慚愧者不名為人，即與飛禽走獸無相異也。

The Nirvāṇa [Sūtra] says: "One with a sense of shame reveals [one's faults] to others." The Yogācārabhūmi says: "Generating embarrassment toward the outside is shame." The Nirvāṇa [Sūtra] also says that one without conscience and shame is not called human, which means they are no different from flying birds and walking beasts.
