When the mind is tranquil, the dharmakāya is revealed; when there is neither worry nor fear, prajñā arises; when in meeting circumstances there is surplus, vimokṣa is accomplished. The complete presence of these three dharmas is called great nirvāṇa. Hence the Treatise says: “Because the three kinds of virtues—prajñā and so forth—are accomplished as fruits.” Furthermore, “the mind is tranquil” means being free from flattery and deceit. “Neither worry nor fear” means not seeking from others. “In meeting circumstances there is surplus” means that in lying down one senses the width of a single cot, in covering oneself one senses the warmth of a single quilt, in eating one senses the fullness of a single meal, and in dwelling one senses the peace of a space just enough to accommodate the knees; all these are surplus, and so one is constantly never deficient. Since the mind has no other thoughts, nirvāṇa arrives of itself without seeking.
