〔補註〕信為道元功德母，故聞法起信乃入道底本，如船為載物渡人之底本也。
[Supplementary note:] Faith is the source of the Way and the mother of merit; therefore, hearing the Dharma and giving rise to faith is the very foundation for entering the Way, just as a boat is the foundation for carrying cargo and ferrying people across.
